Overchan V.2: What is it?

The Overchan V.2 is an Imageboard portal. The purpose here is to conveniently navigate though one *chan to another, right on the site.

This idea is based off of the original Overchan which is still run, and the now defunct Original Overchan's navigation portal.

How did it begin?

On August 23, 2006 in the first and popular english Imageboard 4chan, Moot decided that the crazyness of CP and raiding sites was too much and enforced the rules on /b/ even stricter. As a result this pissed off anon and many have split off to different directions. (you can read more about this particular incident by clicking this.) Many went to an up-and-coming board, 7chan, while others accepted the hospitality of a Russian-chan, Dva.ch. I was one of the people who ended up at the Russian imageboard, while trying to watch the issues going about on 4chan and 7chan, and later other sites such as 420chan and iichan. All this chaos and splits were too hard to track, and as a result i decided to take the html menu from Dva.ch and fix them so that i could add the menu of 4chan and others onto it on one site. At the time i only had a freesite which is full of long url and fail, but it was usable and was a good hit with anon.

After the chaos backed down and the imageboard culture was going back to normal, I decided to continue development on the site with some motivation from the users. More sites were added and the popularity grew. Later, i was offered some webspace from shii, and from there, on August 27 2006, The site was officially known as Overchan V.2.

At first there was like, 20 different sites to maintain but after many requests from users and even site-admins, we grew content-wise and eventually ditched the menu with a nicer easier one that worked on almost all browsers (what we use). We even had to span to make 2 different menus, the OfurChan (furry content) and the OverText (textboards) which helped organize the chanboards further.

We hadn't have any real drama or anything interesting to note in those kinds of areas. We had two downtimes (two more and we get an ED article!), and in 2007 other variants of the Overchan V.2 were created: Filterchan, /a/chan, and A different creation and concept that is also noteworthy, The Overbooru.

As of today (of writing?), we are still expanding and growing and making improvements to hopefully make the Overchan V.2 better.
