Namotassa - Everything Shii Knows

Namotassa is a verse often seen at the top of a Buddhist document. It is a Buddhist homage which opens the statement of refuge, and in Buddhist countries it is oftentimes chanted as well.

Transliteration: Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammāsambuddhassa

Translation: Homage to him, the Blessed One, the Worthy One, the perfectly enlightened Buddha.

Full Chant of refuge:

Namo tassa, bhagavato, arahato samma sambuddhasa

Namo tassa, bhagavato, arahato, samma sambuddhasa

Buddham saranam gacchami,

(I take refuge in... etc.)

Dhammam saranam gacchami,

Sangham saranam gacchami.

Dutiyampi Buddham saranam gacchami,

(For the second time, I take refuge in... etc.)

Dutiyampi Dhammam saranam gacchami,

Dutiyampi Sangham saranam gacchami.

Tatiyampi Buddham saranam gacchami,

(For the third time, I take refuge in... etc.)

Tatiyampi Dhammam saranam gacchami,

Tatiyampi Sangham saranam gacchami.
